Life Care Centers of America’s Whatever It Takes And Then Some program honors associates who go beyond their job descriptions in caring for residents, their families and fellow associates. Here are three of the inspiring stories from our December 2015 winners:
Lorri Sandmire, environmental services manager at Life Care Center of Port Townsend, Washington, visited a resident who had been recently hospitalized. One of the resident’s favorite comfort items was a stuffed donkey, which Sandmire brought to her. Hospital staff shared that the resident immediately perked up during Sandmire’s visit.
Arnell Dodd, registered nurse at Life Care Center of Orange Park, Florida, wanted to help spread Christmas cheer this holiday season. She decided to act as a secret Santa for residents at the facility. If a resident mentioned that they needed or wanted something specific, Dodd purchased the item and gave them the present anonymously.
Marili Miranda, certified nursing assistant at Garden Terrace in Aurora, Colorado, knew that a resident who had recently passed away didn’t have any living family members. To ensure that the resident was buried in appropriate clothing, Miranda donated one of her gowns to the hospice company handling the funeral arrangements.
