Amanda Edgar, social services director at Life Care Center of Port Townsend, Washington, received Life Care Centers of America’s Northwest Division Whatever It Takes And Then Some Award on Aug. 16, 2017, for her dedication to customer service.
Executives from Life Care awarded Edgar a $1,000 cash prize during an awards ceremony at the company’s headquarters in Cleveland, Tennessee. She was chosen from among thousands of associates in the Northwest Division and was one of only eight associates from Life Care’s more than 200 facilities nationwide to receive the award.
“She spends the extra time required to figure out what works for residents, and in many cases, this results in a reduction of trips to the ER or behavior problems,” read her nomination.
Edgar volunteered to step into the director position a mere month after having a child, and she has sometimes worked as a certified nursing assistant when needed.
Edgar was particularly praised for a specific act of caring in 2016, however.
When a resident who had no family support was nearing the end of his therapy program, Edgar drove more than half an hour away to his home, tidied it up and organized it for his return. When she realized he had no food and no ride to pick up his prescriptions, she used her day off to take him grocery shopping and to the pharmacy.
“I have an incredible building, and the people inspire me to do what I do,” said Edgar. “I love our residents, and it’s nice to make their lives easier.”
“Dedicated caregivers routinely go far above and beyond their job descriptions, and Amanda Edgar certainly demonstrates by her example their professionalism and compassion for the residents they serve,” said Beecher Hunter, Life Care president. “We are proud of Amanda and the thousands she represents in their selfless approach to the needs of others.”
Life Care Centers of America’s Whatever It Takes And Then Some program rewards associates for extraordinary acts of kindness. Monthly awards are presented in Life Care facilities nationwide based on nominations from fellow associates, family members, residents and guests. Each facility then chooses an annual winner, from which the divisional winners are selected.
